Appliance Repair in Lebanon: When to Fix, When to Replace
AdvisorLB Team
Voltage instability and the constant flip between generator and grid power are hard on appliances. Knowing when a repair is worthwhile — and when you're better off replacing — saves real money.
Quick rule of thumb
If a repair costs more than half the price of a new equivalent, replacing is usually smarter. For appliances over 8–10 years old, the math is even clearer.
Common repairs
- Refrigerators: thermostats, compressors, door seals.
- Washing machines: drain pumps, door locks, drum bearings.
- Air conditioners: capacitors, fan motors, gas top-ups, PCB boards.
- Ovens: thermostats, heating elements, control knobs.
- Water heaters: heating elements, thermostats, anodes.
Voltage protection matters
- Add a quality voltage stabiliser for fridges and ACs — repeated voltage swings kill compressors.
- Surge protectors on TVs, microwaves, and computers prevent expensive failures.
Choosing a technician
- Ask for a diagnosis fee that is deductible from the repair cost.
- Insist on a written quote before any parts are ordered.
- For brand-specific issues (Bosch, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool), authorised service centres often beat independent shops on parts and warranty.
