Lebanon has a strong tradition of fine art education, with several universities offering BFAs. Art supplies stores stock everything from professional oil paints and canvas to children's crayons. Most are in Beirut, but many universities have shops on or near campus.
Painting media
- Oils: traditional, slow-drying, blendable — needs solvent.
- Acrylics: water-based, fast-drying, beginner-friendly.
- Watercolours: portable, transparent, requires good paper.
- Gouache: opaque watercolour — popular with illustrators.
Drawing media
- Graphite (pencils, sticks).
- Charcoal — vine and compressed.
- Coloured pencils and pastels.

Starter kits
- Drawing: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, kneaded eraser, sketchbook A5/A4.
- Watercolour: 12-pan set, round and flat brushes, watercolour paper 300 gsm.
- Acrylic: primary colours + white and black, brushes, canvas board.
- Always buy student-grade to start; upgrade gradually to artist-grade.
