Choosing an Insurance Broker in Lebanon

Choosing an Insurance Broker in Lebanon

The Lebanese insurance market is competitive, with dozens of companies offering near-identical products at noticeably different prices. A licensed broker, registered with the Insurance Control Commission, is the simplest way to compare quotes without contacting every company individually.

Four questions that filter the field

  1. Are you licensed by the ICC? Every broker must hold a license and renew it annually. Ask to see the certificate.
  2. How many companies do you place business with? A broker tied to only one or two carriers cannot give you a real market comparison.
  3. How do you get paid? Commissions paid by the insurer are normal; ask whether any additional fee will appear on your invoice.
  4. Who handles claims? The broker's added value shows up at claim time. Confirm in writing whether they advocate for you with the insurer or just hand off the file.

Common product categories

  • Compulsory third-party motor — required for the mécanique renewal.
  • Comprehensive motor — covers your own vehicle damage and theft.
  • Home / fire — usually required by mortgage lenders and many landlords.
  • Medical (individual or group) — pay attention to exclusions, co-insurance and the network of admitted hospitals.
  • Travel — increasingly required by Schengen consulates.

Red flags

Beware of brokers who push only the cheapest premium; the deductible, sub-limits and excluded perils often explain the price gap. Always read the policy schedule and exclusions section before signing.
