Hiring an Electrician for Home Rewiring in Lebanon
Rewiring an apartment is one of the higher-stakes home jobs — the wrong contractor will leave you with hidden junctions, undersized cables and an automatic transfer switch that buzzes whenever EDL flickers.
What a good quote includes
- A one-line diagram showing the source priority (EDL → solar → battery → generator → EDL again).
- Cable sizes per circuit, in mm², and the maximum simultaneous load.
- Type and brand of the main protections (RCD/RCBO, surge protector) — not just "Schneider or similar".
- Earthing strategy — Lebanese buildings vary widely on this; insist on a measured earth resistance.
- Number of dedicated lines (oven, A/C outdoor units, EV charger if applicable).
The transfer logic
Ask explicitly how loads are split when EDL is on, when only the generator is on, and when only the battery is feeding the apartment. A common mistake is sending the A/C compressors through the battery — which drains it in minutes.
Standards and safety
Lebanon largely follows IEC 60364 for low-voltage installations, though enforcement is patchy. A reputable electrician will still apply it. Smoke alarms and a kitchen gas leak detector add a few dozen dollars and a lot of peace of mind.
Payment and warranty
Tie payments to milestones: 30% on first cable pull, 40% at energization, 30% after a two-week observation period. Ask for at least one year of warranty on workmanship in writing.
