Sourcing Auto Parts in Lebanon: OEM, Aftermarket, and Used
Auto-part supply in Lebanon falls into three buckets — dealer (OEM), aftermarket from importers, and used/scrap-yard parts. Each has its place; using the wrong one in the wrong place gets expensive.
Quick rules of thumb
- Safety-critical parts (brakes, steering, suspension): OEM or reputable-brand aftermarket only. Avoid no-name discount parts.
- Wear items (filters, belts, hoses): good-quality aftermarket from established brands (Mann, Bosch, Mahle) is fine.
- Body parts (bumpers, mirrors, lights): aftermarket common and acceptable. Verify fit before paying.
- Electrical and electronic modules: OEM strongly preferred; cheap clones often cause intermittent faults.
Counterfeit risk
Fake oil filters, brake pads, and spark plugs from China are present in Lebanon. Symptoms include premature failure, poor packaging, missing or wrong-looking part numbers. Buy from established shops with traceable invoices; check brand websites for authenticity-verification codes when available.
Used parts and salvage yards
For older cars and discontinued models, salvage yards (in Beirut's industrial zones and around Tripoli) can save serious money on items like alternators, starters, body panels, and trim. Inspect before paying, and ask about return policy if the part doesn't work once installed.
Pricing reality
Fresh-USD pricing has stabilized. Service items like a full oil change with quality filter and synthetic oil typically run USD 30–60 for a mainstream sedan. A brake pad set: USD 25–80 aftermarket; OEM higher.
