Water Pumps in Lebanon: Domestic, Booster, and Submersible

Water Pumps in Lebanon: Domestic, Booster, and Submersible

Water supply in Lebanon depends on rooftop tanks, ground reserves, and private wells. Pumps move water between them and to the taps. Picking the right type and sizing matters: an undersized pump burns out, an oversized one wastes power and shortens fitting life.

Types of pump

  • Surface centrifugal: pulls from a tank below, lifts to rooftop tank. Cheap, noisy.
  • Self-priming jet pump: handles small air pockets and shallow wells (up to 8 m suction).
  • Booster pump (with pressure tank): maintains tap pressure when rooftop gravity is weak.
  • Submersible borehole pump: drops into a well, lifts hundreds of metres.
  • Variable-speed (VFD) pumps: adjust output to demand — quiet, energy-saving.

Sizing

  • Flow (L/min): how much water per minute you need.
  • Head (m): vertical lift + pipe friction losses.
  • Read the pump curve — buy where curve crosses your demand point.
  • Add 10–20% safety margin.

Brands seen in Lebanon

  • Italian: Pedrollo, DAB, Lowara — reliable mid-to-high tier.
  • Spanish: Espa, Bombas Saci.
  • Chinese OEMs: cheap, variable quality — buy from a dealer that stocks spare parts.
  • Grundfos (Danish): premium, very long life.

Installation must-haves

  • Check valve to prevent backflow.
  • Pressure switch for auto-on/off.
  • Dry-run protection — pump burns out in seconds without water.
  • Vibration dampers and proper electrical earthing.
