L'Atelier du Miel

(12 reviews)

Premium Lebanese honey producer founded in 2013 by Marc Antoine Bou Nassif and two co-founders (an architect, an engineer and a business consultant). Started in their mother's kitchen and grew into one of the most popular honey brands in the Middle East. Manages over 1,000 beehives across Lebanon, producing approximately 15 tons of honey per year. Practices "transhumance" — seasonal movement of beehives following flower blossoming — and feeds bees on banana, carob, cedar, cherry, clover, eucalyptus, fir, jujube, loquat, oak, orange blossom, thistle, thyme and wildflowers (never sugar). Pure, raw, never-heated honey. Boutiques in Tabaris-Achrafieh and Mar Mikhael (workshop & rooftop garden café) offering 30+ types of Lebanese and partner honeys, honey-based jams, nougat, marrons glacés, gingerbread, honey drops and artisanal honey dippers. Programs include "Homegrown your Honey" (2016) helping institutions/wineries produce honey on their land, and a "Bee-Park" subscription with hives in 12 locations across Lebanon. Tannourine beekeeping tours offered to the public.

Nayef El Rassi Apiary

(6 reviews)

Family beekeeping enterprise on the main road of Aitanit, West Bekaa, Lebanon. Beekeeping has been Nayef Al Rassi's main source of income since the 1980s. Practices transhumance: hives placed around Tyre for orange-blossom honey, and in the highlands of Saghbine and Aitanit for wild-flower and thistle-blossom honey. Summer harvest features abundant eryngo, wild mint, wild berries and globe thistle blossoms yielding a rich-tasting honey. Sells directly to visitors and through Lebanese specialty grocers.
